Camera angles in a movie

The movie that I chose was  a 2017 action film called, "What Happened To Monday" directed by Robert WirKola. This movie takes place in the future as overpopulation and famine has become a big problem. Due to overpopulation and famine, families are only allowed to have one child. One day, 1 of seven siblings disappear and the siblings do everything they can to find her, only to find out she sold them out.

In the beginning of the movie, the narrator talked about how to world was falling apart due to overpopulation, climate change and famine. Not being able to produce enough food for the entire world was a problem and they needed to find a solution. This shot is an establishing shot which shows the location and mood in which the movie takes place in. That is what homes look like after a natural disaster hit because of climate change, homes submerged underwater and the water is so high up that you can not even see the ground or the tree bark.

This next camera angle that I chose was an extreme close-up of Mondays eye. In a regular world, people would just use a key to get inside there home but instead, in their society, their eyes are the key. Since all the siblings are identical and share the same exact features, they can all get into their home with no trouble at all. The beam checks their eye to confirm their identification. If a person who didn’t live at the home, the door would obviously not open and send in a security alert, alerting the resident(s) that someone is trying to get in.

This is a low angle shot which shows the subject looking down at the camera. In this shot, a man from the Child Allocation Bureau, was chasing Wednesday, one of the seven sisters, trying to detain her. Wednesday comes into a big predicament. She has to make a long jump in order to get away, but the man comes from the other side and right when Wednesday jumps, he bursts out from the door and shoots her in midair, causing her to be pushed back. She hangs onto the ledge and the C.A.B agent looks at her one last time before he shoots her, and she falls. This makes me feel sad for Wednesday.
The next shot I chose was a close-up shot of Thursdays amputated finger after a skateboarding accident. She snuck out the house when it wasn’t her day to go out. This one incident causes the rest of the girls to also pay for what Thursday has done. This causes the grandfather to explain to them that they would all have to get their fingertip cut off because they need to look exactly the same to ensure their safety. He cuts off Monday’s fingertip first by numbing her hand and using a hot, sterilized meat cleaver to get it done quick.

The last shot I chose was a full shot. This is a shot where the subject’s whole body is shown. In this scene, Thursday is looking up at her sister, Friday’s ashes as they’re coming down from the sky. Friday sacrifices herself so her sister could make it and rescue Monday. Friday puts spray paint cans in the microwave as the C.A.B agents are trying to get into the sibling’s apartment. She makes it seem like she’s leaving with Thursday but as soon as Thursday makes it down safely, she goes back into the building to retrieve their last memories and sync them to Thursdays bracelet right before she blows up with the C.A.B agents.

Mise-en-scene

The movie I decided to use to show mise-en-scene was the 1997 film, “Titanic.” The RMS Titanic was originally built in 1909 and began its voyage on April 10 th , 1912. Now because this took place such long ago, there will be many things we see in the film that we may not see as much in today’s society. Mise-en-scene focuses on 4 main elements, lighting, costumes, setting and staging. To start off, Titanic starts off by showing an old, vintage video of the actual titanic I presume, showing people on the dock waving good by to their friends and family who are on the ship. Cameras back then didn’t have the capabilities to produce colors as cameras today do. The scene of the ship tells us that this is where the movie will be taking place. The whole movie takes place on the ship, even when they cut from the past to the present, they are still on a ship. Moving forward, as the scene switches, we see some type of submarine going down into the ocean and soon touches the ocean floor. The...

Classmates storyboard comments

Jennifer's post I enjoyed the reaction shot. In this shot, you can see the subjects reaction to something off camera. This shot lets us know how the subject feels and catches their genuine reaction. I also enjoyed the low angle shot. This shot makes the subject look big from the angle, making them seem powerful. Another shot i enjoyed was the high angle shot. This shot makes the subjects look small and ant like and we feel like giants looking at them. Sasha's post I really enjoyed the follow shot. This shot followed the subjects, showing what's going on and also the environment. The emotions that can really be felt are excitement. I also enjoyed the pan shot. In this shot, the recorder pans from one subject to another so you can see who they're talking to. Another shot i enjoyed was the over the shoulder shot. In this shot you can see one of the subjects point of view. You can also see the subjects head and part of their shoulder so we know whose pov were looking at.
